Frequently Asked Questions
Care and Cleaning
When should the Claris Aqua filter be replaced?
The Claris cartridge needs to be replaced after approximately 50 liters of boiled water or at least every two months. Depending on your model, the appliance may automatically prompt you to replace it.
Why should you descale?
Limescale deposits form naturally in your appliance and can impair its performance if left untreated. Regular descaling of your machine preserves its proper functioning and ensures its longevity by removing all limescale or boiler scale deposits from all components that regularly come into contact with water and are prone to calcification. All our machines are equipped with a warning function that informs you when descaling is necessary.
I've been using my machine for a long time and still haven't received a descaling warning. Is that normal?
It's normal for no warning messages to appear if your steam/hot water consumption is low. Your espresso machine is equipped with a counter and will automatically notify you when descaling is required after a certain number of steam/hot water brewing cycles, depending on several factors such as consumption, water hardness setting, etc.
When should I descale my machine?
Your espresso machine is equipped with a counter and will automatically notify you when descaling is necessary after a certain number of steam/hot water brewing cycles, depending on several factors such as consumption and water hardness. Therefore, it's normal not to receive any warnings if your steam/hot water consumption is low. Aside from these warnings, descaling is not required.
What's the best way to descale my machine?
Follow the instructions in the user manual to descale your machine. We recommend descaling as soon as the machine displays the alarm and using the descaling product whose dosage has been perfectly adjusted and tested by our teams to effectively combat limescale and deposits without risking damage to the machine's internal components. Descaling is not necessary unless a warning message appears.
How do I clean the inside of my espresso machine?
After a certain number of coffees, it's important to clean and degrease the entire coffee circuit of the machine with a cleaning tablet to preserve the flavor quality of your beverage. The machine is equipped with a cleaning program and will automatically notify you when this is necessary, depending on several factors: consumption, water hardness setting, etc. We recommend cleaning the machine as soon as the warning appears and using tablets whose dosage has been perfectly calibrated and tested by our team to ensure effectiveness without risking damage to the machine's internal components.
Why are automatic cleaning programs sufficient to ensure perfect hygiene and the longevity of your machine?
Your machine features a unique design with hydraulic technology for brewing perfect coffee. This design allows the coffee circuit to be pressurized and automatically emptied after each cup, guaranteeing perfect hygiene. This unique system: • Ensure there is no water residue inside the machine, which limits limescale buildup and ensures long-lasting performance. After each use, you will see residual water in the drip tray, which is due to this automatic rinsing/emptying process. • Reduces cleaning and maintenance efforts to a minimum, ensuring uninterrupted coffee enjoyment.
Which parts of the espresso machine should be cleaned?
Drip Tray: The drip tray collects water or coffee that spills from the machine during and after brewing. It is important to keep it in place and empty it regularly. For hygiene reasons, we recommend cleaning the drip tray daily and allowing it to air dry before replacing it in the machine. If the floats are in the upper position, this indicates an overflow. The drip tray must then be emptied. Coffee Grounds Collector: The coffee grounds collector collects the extracted coffee grounds. For hygiene reasons, we recommend cleaning the coffee grounds collector daily with hot soapy water and allowing it to air dry before replacing it in the machine. The machine will indicate when the coffee grounds collector needs emptying. You can empty it more frequently, but if the machine is switched on, replace the collector so the machine can register that it has been emptied. Important : • If you do not empty the coffee grounds collector regularly as described above, your machine may be damaged. • Do not put the collector in the dishwasher. Water Tank For hygiene reasons and to preserve the aroma of your coffee, we recommend using fresh water, cleaning the tank daily with hot water and a sponge, and allowing it to air dry before placing it back in the machine. Coffee Bean Container Coffee beans can leave an oily residue on the sides of the container, which can affect the quality of your coffee. For hygiene reasons and to preserve the aroma of the coffee, we recommend wiping the container with a clean, soft, and dry cloth before each refill. Important : Do not use water to clean the coffee bean container. The presence of water in the container could damage your machine.
Can I perform a manual descaling?
We recommend descaling your machine only when prompted to do so, to prevent damage to undescaled components. If the number of drinks prepared in the first few months of use is insufficient to necessitate descaling, you cannot manually descale the machine beforehand (apart from an automatic warning). Depending on the model, manual descaling may be possible once this number of drinks has been reached.
If the machine displays a cleaning warning, do I need to do this immediately?
You don't have to run the cleaning program immediately when the machine prompts you, but you must do so within a short time. If the cleaning is postponed, the warning message will remain on the display until the process is carried out.
Optimal use of the product
Can the fully automatic espresso machine be adjusted to take the water hardness into account?
Yes, fully automatic espresso machines are factory-set to water hardness level 3, but can be readjusted depending on the water type in your area. To determine the water hardness (0 = very soft, 1 = soft, 2 = medium, 3 = hard, 4 = very hard), dip one of the paper test strips supplied with the machine into your water for one second and then wait one minute for the result, or contact your water supplier. You can also obtain this information from your local council. Turn the dial in the coffee bean hopper according to your coffee bean type and desired aroma intensity. This adjustment must be made gradually during the grinding process. After three brews, you will clearly notice a difference in taste.
How can I adjust the fineness of the ground coffee?
You can adjust the strength of your coffee by changing the grind size of the coffee beans. Changing the grind allows you to tailor it to different coffee varieties: a dark roast and oilier coffee requires a coarser grind, while a light roast produces a lighter coffee and requires a finer grind. The finer the coffee grounds, the more intense the aroma.
Technical Support
The water isn't flowing through.
This can have several causes: • The water tank is empty. Fill it with water. • The water tank is not inserted correctly. Check that it is inserted correctly. • The filter is clogged. The coffee grounds are too fine. Clean the filter holder and use coarser coffee grounds. • The pump has not been primed (see priming instructions). • The machine is scaled up. Descale the machine. • The Claris filter cartridge has been replaced but not primed (see priming instructions).
What should I do if the power goes out during a cycle?
The device restarts automatically when power is restored and is ready for a new cycle.
What if there is water or coffee under the device?
Make sure the drip tray hasn't overflowed and empty it if necessary. Check that the drip tray is positioned correctly.
Why is no steam coming out of the nozzle?
Ensure the steam nozzle is not blocked. After switching off and allowing the appliance to cool down: Clean all nozzle openings and remove any blockages using the supplied needle. Clear the opening of the steam nozzle support tube with a needle. Remove the Claris cartridge.
Why is the coffee being served so slowly?
If you are using a water filter, remove it. If this does not solve the problem, turn the grind knob to the right for a coarser grind (this may depend on the type of coffee being used). Run one or more rinsing cycles.
Why isn't the water or steam coming out of the steam nozzle normally?
With repeated use, a few drops may drip from the steam nozzle.
Why is the coffee too light or too weak?
• Check if the coffee bean container contains coffee and if it dispenses the coffee correctly. • Do not use oily, caramelized, or flavored coffee. • Prepare the beverage in two cycles using the 2-cup function. • Adjust the fineness of the ground coffee by turning the adjustment knob on the coffee bean container.
Why isn't the espresso or coffee hot enough?
Check the temperature setting of your chosen coffee and adjust it if necessary. Warm the cups by rinsing them with hot water to avoid a "heat shock" from cold cups. This will result in even better coffee quality.
Why is the water tank LED still lit?
Check that the tank is correctly seated in the appliance. Ensure that the magnetic float of the water tank can move freely. Rinse the tank and descale it if necessary.
Why is the coffee grinder making a strange noise?
Most of the noise from the machine comes from the grinder. A certain level of noise is therefore normal while grinding coffee. Sometimes a foreign object gets into the grinder. In this case, empty the coffee bean container and vacuum it out from the inside near the grinder. We recommend using high-quality coffee beans to extend the lifespan of the integrated grinding mechanism. If the machine continues to make unusual noises, please contact our customer service.
Why isn't the coffee very creamy?
Turn the grind knob to the left for a finer grind. Remove the Claris cartridge.
Why is the knob for the coffee grind setting on the grinder difficult to turn?
Only change the grind setting while the machine is running.
The coffee bean container is empty, but the warning light has not illuminated.
The warning light requires a few coffee cycles to become operational. Once you have completed the first few cycles without coffee beans, simply add beans to the hopper and complete two or three more coffee cycles to activate the function.
Various Topics
Which coffee beans are best?
Arabica beans develop the best aroma and naturally contain less caffeine. Try the different varieties, blends, and roasts to find the coffee you like best. Generally speaking, the darker the roast, the stronger the coffee flavor. A light roast allows the coffee to develop its full aroma. It's mild yet full-bodied, a delight for any coffee connoisseur! High-quality coffee beans should only be lightly roasted. Only then can they fully develop their rich, delicate, and complex flavor. Do not use very dark roasted coffee beans. These are usually more oily and can clog the machine. Make sure there are no tiny stones mixed in with the coffee beans. These can also damage the machine. Never use instant coffee or ground coffee.
What are the characteristics of an original espresso coffee?
You can recognize genuine espresso coffee by the foam that is created by the pressure in the machine during preparation. Pressure is measured in bar (from 1.5 to 19). The higher the pressure, the richer and thicker the foam.
How does espresso compare to filter coffee?
An espresso has a stronger aroma than "regular" coffee. More precisely, an espresso can be recognized by its rich aroma and the creamy foam on the surface of the cup. This requires a pressure of 15 bar (achieved only by espresso machines), water heated to 90-92 °C, and finely ground and measured coffee (7 g per cup).
Can I use ground coffee in a coffee machine designed for whole beans, or coffee beans in a coffee machine designed for ground coffee?
No. These machines are specifically designed for the type of coffee used. If you've used the wrong coffee, remove it and fill it with the correct type.
What is the best way to store coffee beans?
The optimal storage for coffee beans is in an airtight container in the refrigerator. This way they can be stored for up to 3 months.
Where can I dispose of my device?
Your device contains various recoverable or recyclable materials. Please dispose of your device at a collection point in your city or town.
I just opened my new machine and I think one of the parts is missing. What should I do?
