Frequently Asked Questions
How can I best use the product?
Can I calibrate fully automatic espresso machines to take water hardness into account?
Yes, fully automatic espresso machines are factory-calibrated for water hardness level 3, but they can be recalibrated depending on the water type in your area. Immerse one of the paper test strips supplied with the device in water for one second, then wait 1 minute for the result, or contact your water supplier to determine the water hardness to use (0 = very soft, 1 = soft, 2 = slightly hard, 3 = hard, 4 = very hard). You can also obtain this information by contacting your local council.
How do I adjust the fineness of the grind?
With the rotating handle located on the coffee bean hopper. This adjustment should be applied during grinding, notch by notch (you can hear the grinder noise before the coffee starts to flow).
Maintenance and cleaning
When should the Claris Aqua filter be replaced?
The Claris cartridge needs to be replaced approximately every 50 liters of water, or at least every 2 months. Depending on your model, the machine may automatically prompt you to replace it.
Why is descaling necessary?
Calcification deposits form naturally in your appliance and, without intervention, can affect the machine's performance. Regular descaling of your machine will preserve its proper functioning and ensure its longevity by removing all limescale or calcification deposits in all circuits that are in regular contact with water and susceptible to calcification. All our machines are equipped with an alert function that lets you know when you need to descale.
I've been using my machine for a long time and haven't received a descaling alert yet. Is this normal?
It may be normal not to receive warning messages if your steam/hot water consumption is low. Your espresso machine is equipped with a counter that will automatically alert you when descaling is necessary after a certain number of steam/hot water preparations and according to various parameters: your consumption, water hardness setting, ...
When should I descale my machine?
Your espresso machine is equipped with a counter and will automatically alert you when descaling is necessary after a certain number of steam/hot water preparations and according to various parameters: your consumption, water hardness setting, etc. Therefore, it is normal not to receive alerts if your steam/hot water consumption is low. Descaling is not necessary beyond the machine's alerts.
What's the best way to descale my machine?
Follow the instructions in the user manual regarding descaling your machine. We recommend that you descale as soon as the machine displays the alert and that you use the descaling product whose dosage has been perfectly adapted and tested by our teams to act effectively against limescale and minerals, without any risk of damage to the internal components of the machine. Descaling is not necessary beyond the warning messages.
How can I clean the inside of my espresso machine?
After a certain number of coffees, it is important to clean and degrease the entire coffee circuit of the machine with a cleaning tablet to preserve the quality of the taste of your drinks. The machine is equipped with a cleaning program that will automatically alert you when necessary, depending on several parameters: your consumption, water hardness setting, etc. We recommend that you clean the machine as soon as the alert appears and use the tablets whose dosage has been perfectly adapted and tested by our teams to act effectively, without any risk of damage to the internal components of the machine.
Why are automatic cleaning programs sufficient to guarantee perfect hygiene and the longevity of your machine?
Your machine has a unique design that uses hydraulic technology to make perfect coffee. This construction allows the coffee circuit to be rinsed under pressure and emptied automatically after each cup: guaranteeing perfect hygiene. This unique system: • It ensures that there is no water residue inside the machine, limiting limescale buildup and guaranteeing long-lasting performance. After each use, you can check that there is residual water in the drip tray, which is associated with this automatic rinsing/draining. • It minimizes the need for cleaning and maintenance, allowing you to enjoy coffee without complications.
Which parts of the espresso machine should be cleaned?
Drip Tray The drip tray is used to catch any water or coffee that spills from the machine during and after brewing. It is important to always leave it in place and empty it regularly. For hygiene reasons, we recommend removing the drip tray to clean it daily and letting it air dry before replacing it in the machine. When the floats are in the upper position, this indicates a spill. Then, it is necessary to empty the drip tray. Coffee Grounds Collector The coffee grounds collector receives the extracted coffee grounds. For hygiene reasons, we recommend cleaning the coffee grounds collector with hot soapy water every day and letting it air dry before replacing it in the machine. When it is necessary to empty the coffee grounds collector, the machine will indicate this. You can empty it more regularly, but when the machine is running, replace the collector so that the machine can register that it has been emptied. Important : • Not regularly emptying the coffee grounds collector, as described above, may damage your machine. • Do not put the collector in the dishwasher. Water tank To preserve the aroma of your coffee and for hygiene reasons, we recommend using fresh water, cleaning the tank daily with hot water and a sponge, and allowing it to air dry before replacing it in the machine. Coffee bean container Coffee beans can leave a greasy residue on the sides of the container, which can affect the quality of your coffee. To preserve its aroma and for hygiene reasons, we recommend cleaning it with a clean, soft, dry cloth whenever you need to refill it. Important: Do not use water to clean the bean container, as the presence of water in the container may damage your machine.
Can I descale manually?
We recommend that you only descale your machine when it prompts you to, to avoid damaging components that have not yet been calcified. During the first few months of use, if the number of drinks made is not sufficient to require descaling, you will not be able to manually descale in advance (beyond the automatic alert). After this number of drinks, manual descaling is possible (depending on the model).
When the machine displays a cleaning alert, do I have to clean it immediately?
It is not necessary to run the cleaning program immediately when the machine alerts you to do so, but you should do it within a short period of time. If cleaning is delayed, the warning message will remain on the display until the operation is carried out.
Technical support
The water doesn't drain.
This could be due to numerous factors: • There is no water in the reservoir; fill the reservoir, • Your reservoir is not installed correctly; press the reservoir firmly, • The filter is blocked; the coffee grind is too fine. Clean the filter holder and try a less fine coffee grind, • The pump is not working; consult the instructions for starting, • Your appliance has limescale buildup; descale it, • The Claris filter cartridge has been replaced but is not working; consult the instructions.
What should I do if a power outage occurs during a cycle?
The device restarts automatically when power returns and will be ready for a new cycle.
What do I do if there is water or coffee under the appliance?
Make sure the drip tray is not full and empty it if necessary. Check that the drip tray is positioned correctly.
Why isn't any steam coming out of the nozzle?
Make sure the steam nozzle is not obstructed. After switching off the appliance and allowing it to cool down, clean and unclog all the nozzle holes with the supplied needle. Unclog the hole in the steam nozzle support tube with a needle. Remove the Claris cartridge.
Why is the coffee poured so slowly?
Remove the water filter if the machine has one. If this does not solve the problem, turn the grind fineness knob to the right for a coarser grind (this may depend on the type of coffee used). Run one or more rinsing cycles.
Why isn't water or steam dispensed normally through the steam nozzle?
With repeated use, a few drops may leak from the steam nozzle.
Why does the coffee have such a pale color or is it so weak?
• Check that the coffee bean container is full of coffee and that you are dispensing it correctly. • Avoid using oily, caramelized, or flavored coffee. • Make the drink in two brewing cycles when using the 2-cup function. • Adjust the fineness of the ground coffee using the rotating handle located on the coffee bean hopper.
Why doesn't the espresso or coffee come out hot enough?
Check the temperature setting of your selected coffee and adjust it if necessary. Warm the cups by rinsing them with hot water to avoid creating a "thermal shock" with cold cups. The resulting coffee will be of even better quality.
Why is the light on the water tank still on?
Check that the water tank is correctly positioned in the appliance. Ensure that the magnetic float in the water tank moves freely. Rinse the tank and descale if necessary.
Why is the coffee grinder making a strange noise?
Most of the noise produced by the machine comes from the grinder. Therefore, it is normal for some noise to be produced when the coffee is being ground. Sometimes, a foreign object may get into the grinder. In this case, empty the coffee bean container and vacuum the inside near the grinder. We recommend using good quality coffee beans to preserve the lifespan of the integrated grinding wheels of the coffee grinder. If your machine continues to produce a strange noise, contact the Consumer Contact Center.
Why doesn't the coffee come out very creamy?
Turn the grind fineness knob to the left for a finer grind. Remove the Claris cartridge.
Why is it difficult to adjust the coffee grinder's fineness dial?
Change the mill settings only when it is running.
Various Topics
What is the best type of coffee bean to buy?
Arabica coffee beans offer the best flavor and are naturally low in caffeine. Experiment with different varieties, blends, and roast levels to find what you like. Generally, the darker the roast, the stronger the coffee flavor. A lighter roast enhances the aromas and results in a light, flavorful coffee – the kind a true connoisseur appreciates! Good coffees should only be lightly roasted to bring out their true richness, subtlety, and complexity. Avoid very dark roasted beans as they tend to be oilier and can clog machines. Check for small stones mixed with the beans, which can also damage the machine. Never use instant or ground coffee.
What makes a coffee a true espresso?
True espresso coffee is evident in the crema created by the pressure while the machine is brewing. Pressure is measured in bars (from 1.5 to 19), so the higher the pressure, the richer and thicker the crema will be.
How does espresso compare to filtered coffee?
An espresso has a stronger aroma than "normal" coffee. In fact, an espresso can be distinguished by its rich aroma and the creamy crema on the surface of the cup. It requires a pressure of 15 bar (achieved only by espresso machines), water heated to 90-92 °C, and measured, finely ground coffee (7 g per cup).
Can I use ground coffee in a bean-to-cup coffee machine, or coffee beans in a ground coffee machine?
No, these machines are specifically designed according to the type of coffee used. If you use the wrong type of coffee, remove it and refill the machine with the correct type.
What is the shelf life of coffee beans?
The best way to extend the shelf life of grains is to place them directly in an airtight container and store them in the refrigerator. They should keep for at least 3 months this way.
Where should I dispose of the device when it reaches the end of its useful life?
The device contains materials that can be recovered or recycled. Please take it to a collection point.
I just opened my new machine and I think a part is missing. What should I do?
If you think a part is missing, contact the Consumer Contact Center and we will help you find a suitable solution.
Where can I buy accessories, consumables, or replacement parts for my appliance?
Contact customer service via hotline.
What are the warranty conditions for my device?
For more detailed information, please refer to the Warranty section of this website.
